As the longest-running national celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading schools, libraries, and bookstores will host official Children’s Book Week events between May 1-7 from coast to coast in all 50 states. This May marks the 98th anniversary of Children’s Book Week; the theme for this year’s celebration is “One World, Many Stories.”
Grant County Public Library will celebrate Children’s Book Week with special displays and activities for children, along with a chance for children up to age 18 to sign up for door prizes. So kids bring your parents to the library during this special week.
The South Dakota Child’s Book Awards are also available at the Library. They include the Prairie Pasque winners (grades 4-5)The Whispering Town by Jennifer Elvgen and Stubby the War Dog by Ann Bausum. The Prairie Bloom winners (grades 2-3) are Dog V Cat by Chris Gall and Elizabeth, Queen of the seas by Lynne Cox. The Prairie Bud winners (PreK-1) are Gaston by Kelly DiPucchio and Okay, Andy by Maxwell Eaton.
South Dakota Young Adult Services award winners for middle school readers are A Night Divided by Jennifer Nielson and Faceless by Alyssa Sheinmel. For the high school readers the winners are Nimona by Noelle Stevenson and Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon.
